A Counselor at a Marriage Conference- Lesson 8

Jacksonville Marriage Counseling Encouragement #8 "See the problem as the object in front of your and your spouse as your teammate." I was guilty of seeing my spouse as my competitor today. Pretty much anytime I have the thought, "I'm right, you're wrong." The foundational truth is that our marriages exist to point people to our God. We are called to love our spouse like Christ loved us. It is supposed to be pretty impressive. When people are impressed, we point them to the purpose and power behind our loving, selfless attitude in marriage. (Oh these words! Ha.. how difficult they are!) But if we realize that the world does not care if our marriages succeed- and occasionally benefits from its demise- we will realize that our spouse is not the enemy. You and your spouse are in this against the world, literally. So join forces. How can you strategize with your spouse to keep bitterness out of your marriage and romance strong?  From the Weekend to Remember Handbook:
  • Marriage is far more important than you may have thought.
  • There is opposition to God's purposes for marriage.
  • Recognize that your spouse is not your enemy.
