Poetry- Acrostic Poems

S-ometimes it is difficulty to find a way
T-o begin expressing what is on the inside.
A-mazing thoughts come out,
R-ight out,
T-he key is having a place to start.

A blank sheet of paper can be daunting. Creating during the therapeutic process is not for the creation but for the creator (client). It is about the process, not the product. Free writing can be intimidating and difficult; sometimes all people need is a place to start. Acrostic poems can be written from an emotion word ("apathetic", "happy", "miserable") or from the client's name. They can be used to identify strengths or as a way of assessing for how the client is doing before beginning treatment. There is just enough structure provided, but endless possibilities!
